All right this is a video response going out to XX Be Different XX. Basically what he is asking and what he is saying is I am DJ. I would like to work in more nightclubs. First of all what you need to do is this you need to keep every single cutting, every single bit of literature information on you where you have worked. Why? You ask. The reason is just this if you are an artist. You would have what is known as a portfolio in other words all of your work that you do. Any pictures, you put them together. You have a nice portfolio so when you want to get a job somewhere you will take your portfolio with you and you will show that future employer all of your previous work.
As DJ what you need to do if you work in one club, it does not matter but there is a poster with your name on it. For God sake keep it. Put it somewhere, keep it safe. Put it somewhere safe and continue doing this if there is a newspaper clipping with your name in it because you worked in a pub somewhere keep all the facts, very good also very important as well. Now then, years ago prior to the internet people use to send letters to clubs to see if they could work there. Internet came along and everyone sent emails.
Now think about it club owners, managers of big clubs and even smaller clubs. They get so many emails. I guarantee you, I guarantee you they probably do not read them all because they just hang with the time. But I bet you now if you actually sent them what is known as snail mail. A letter with your CD in it, there is a probably a good chance they will listen to it and open it up and read it. Now then CD, this is what you want to do. Play your favorite music and again you feel like house music you must send them to house clubs. If you like soul music you must send them to soul clubs that is quite logical.
But first impressions last very important, okay. Do not get a second hand envelop and wrap it around with cellar tape. Get a new one. If you are going to do a CD do not just right and scribble on the top of it. Get it printed correctly. Get a little design a little logo of you and the DJ who you are and just have it not make it look nice. Make it look inviting. Make it as though when that manager opens that envelope. It is like wow this is interesting I am going to listen to this.
So again, this is a small snippet in to how you can get in to night clubs but one very important factor is this. You have got to be good. You have got to know that you are good. You got to be able to work the crowd. Now do not expect to have the main set. If you anything and I covered these pointers before in other previous video on how to get in to a night club. It may even be a case of you and get paid initially. The manager will say you do the warm up set.
You might actually be playing to like two people on the dance floor that are probably pissed and also the bar staff. But the manager is not a fool because even though he is not there he has his spies and at the end of the night possibly when you have gone or when you are still there just ogling at the main DJ. He will go to the bar staff and he will actually say what was he like and they will either say good or bad.
Do not forget. First impressions last and if you are going to do it warm upset in the nightclub do not go in a hood and a baseball cup etc. Just go smart casual dressed because I personally believe that gone other days now of DJ’s walking in with an attitude. Smart, straight to the point of what you have got your foot in the door and then you can put your cap on because the manager does not give a monkeys in and if he thinks you are pulling in the crowds you are their for life. So thank you for watching practice and enjoy.
