Hi, folks. Have you got a Techniques SL-1200? In fact, anyone of the SL-1200 ranges?
Okay, when you open the box, have you got one of these guys here? Now then, bearing in mind, I haven’t got the original, because the original item is plastic. This is paper. This is showing you, generally, what it looks like, okay?
It is tapered to one end; there is a hole in it but not that big. The hole is just about big enough for that part there of your actual head shell to go into.
Just to show you very quickly, this here is the head shell. This here, is the cartridge. This is the styli housing, and then right there, you have the shaft. The tiny point, that very tiny point, is the styli or the needle.
Now then, this is what the actual piece of plastic is for. If you noticed, the hole there is the ideal size for the actual head shell to fit into. So, it will fit in, like so, bearing in mind that none of this is the scale of size. The piece of paper is just showing you what it is for.
Now, this is the whole idea. What you need to do, when you fitted the two screws and your actual cartridge to the head shell, just loosen off the screws, so the head shell could move up and down, very slightly.
Now, the idea behind this white piece of plastic is simply this. The actual needle or the styli should get to the exact same point. You will notice on the piece of plastic, there is a small triangle. So, the actual diamond—the needle should be just above the tip of that triangle, the end part of that piece of plastic. That is the optimum position for the cartridge, the styli, to be. Once you have set that, then what you only need to do is tighten up those two screws, okay?
I hope that has been of help. Practice and enjoy.
