Alright folks, I have just had an email from a guy called Gerald2000GLE. Now what he basically said: hey, I am a so called bedroom DJ, I mean, you know, spin a few parties, etc, but more recently he has been nothing to drum bass. He likes throwing bass.
Now, he went to a shop, he pulled 3 or 4 records, took them home and realize that they were not really compatible, they did not mix well, maybe they are in the wrong key, maybe that kind of thing so he is basically saying, look you know, if you are a newbie, and all of a sudden you want to start buying say into house or into drum bass or R&B, soul, hip-hop and you do not really like the music but you know you like it, what do you buy.
Because if you think about it, there are so many different types of music out there and even if we split that and we go down even to finer line, let us say, you only want to buy R&B, so, first of, a big shout and hello to the new subscribers because this could hell as well. Let us say that you just start doing a DJ and you like soul, alright. So, you think, yes, that is soul music, so you can listen to on the radio and etc, so I think, so do not forget, when you listen to tunes and you like to write the names down, I have always got a piece of paper with me in the van, because if I hear a tune I like, I stop and I write the name down, bear that in mind.
You are going to a shop, alright and you will have all the selections whether it be CD, Vinyl, PC, whatever, you know, you will have all selections of music and of course then you look and you simply, well, how do I buy? Because this maybe in the vinyl section and the soul section is probably maybe 2 to 312 inch there.
Which ones do you buy? This is what you do. Behind that counter, quite often 99% of the time, the people behind the counter will be DJs themselves. So you ask behind the counter, is there a DJ who works here who is into soul music, or knows a lot about soul music. If there is, you ask them, okay?
If it is highly likely, they will sell you rubbish, alright, and then not doing the shop a favor because, they are not going to do that are they? Because at the end of the day, if they sell you rubbish, you are not going to go back to that shop, you are not going to put money in the tell and you know, it is an ongoing side there, I am going circle.
So if you find the right person who is into the soul music you like, ask them, say look, I am new to this, I love soul music, what records, what CDs etc, do you recommend?
And I promise you, they will be almost over helpful to tell you and they will be picking up their favorite tracks, okay? Tell them, explain to them, you know, that you like soul. And then it is the same with techno, the same with trance, the same with hardcore, with rave, with global techno, with side trance, with electro, with old school, with disco, with hip-hop, with rave, the list goes on.
Guarantee the lowest be one DJ who has that little needs and say right, follow me. I will tell you what, that guy will just go drop a B line to the favorite records and then go, this is good. And then, of course a lot of shops, you can listen to the music there. So, try before you buy. Have a listen to it. See what you think, what I tend to do is like going to a shop and I have like say, 30 or 40, 12 inch and I will listen to every single one and then I will have two piles initially. One pile is a no, the other one is initially yes. But then once I have got rid of the no’s then I will listen to the yes pile again. Because I will always going to think of how much money, you know, a 12 inch single is very expensive so, you do not want to just start buying everything because the trouble is, when you are in a shop and it is all hiked up and the music is blasting and you are listening to these records, quite often, I did that, I am sure you have, you have taken at home and you felt, why did I buy this? It is not bad but you know the player, so study and really you have to be cool to be kind. Okay, because you are saving money all the time, alright? So, once again,. Thank you for watching, practice and enjoy and a biog shout out to the new subscribers. If you have not subscribe, I suggest you go and check all the videos, there is some are raw and naughty, alright, practice and enjoy.
