Good morning, folks. I had a message from Scott. He has said, I am going to turn away now, because I have got to look at the screen. I watch your videos and am interested in becoming a DJ but it looks slightly difficult. I am wondering if I should buy deck or not. I do not want to buy decks to find out that I cannot use them or there is not a lot of money to be made as a DJ.
Right, there is a great deal of money to be made as a DJ but only if you are damn good. Alternatively, this is what we do, if you are only just starting, and you want to know if you want to buy decks, the first thing you need to do is practice. How do you practice but you need to buy decks, of course, go find a mate who has got turntables.
CD decks, turntables, it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to use vinyl or CD, that is the first choice and then go and practice. Practice on them and if you get good, then you need to make the choice you want to buy some stuff. For God’s sake, do not buy cheap decks because believe me, you will buy the cheap decks because you think of saving money.
Short term, you save money, long term you actually lose money because when you get too good for them, then you realize that you need to buy decent decks like Technics or Vestax. Therefore the original decks you bought are worth nothing because no one really wants second hand decks. Like I said how do you make money, if you become very good, you can work in night clubs etc. Difficult to get in, a lot of people there but it is worth it.
The other one, which where you can earn decent money quite relatively easy is become like a wedding party DJ. I know it sounds very dodgy, you make somebody laugh at you but you will be the one out there on a Saturday night earning 200 quid. How do you do it, buy yourself a small PA system, a few lights, the Now CDs best of 60s, 70s play out and stuff like that. You will hate it. All right it is a bit of fun I suppose but at the end of the day, that money you earned will buy the stuff you like.
If you are into drum and bass, let us face it, what is a drum and bass 12 inch now, 8 or 9 quid, how many people can afford to go out and buy 10 of those in a week. It is a lot of money but you do your wedding discos you can afford to do it. I hope that has been a help. Any more information you need, give us a call.
