ARMBAR WHITE BELT GUARD
The next submission that we are going to work on, is an Armbar from the guard position and it's kind of got a lot of different setups. We are going to go over the most basic setup, and how you can get the Armbar when you are still in your guard. So we have our opponent in our guard. The setup of the grip is very important. I like to weave my arm in here, and grab my opponent's triceps.
I am not grabbing from behind it, if I do that, he is going to move his arm. I reach over it, and I grab right here. I then hold his arm to the center of my body, I want his elbow resting on my chest, okay? I don't want to try this Armbar from way out here.
So I am here, I reach up, grabbing it. This hand goes across his face, on to his other shoulder. I pull his elbow to the center of my chest. My arms are now setup for this Armbar. I open my guard, now you can play your foot forward to do this. I like to put my foot on my opponent's hip to turn me.
Just like with any type of submission you ever need in submission grabbing, you are going to need a 90 degree angle between your bodies. So we are here, this leg goes across his ribs, just like in mayflower sweep, but this leg is going to come up and hook his head here.
Now I want to push my heels towards my butt, keeping him in as close as possible, that way if he tries to stand up, when he goes up, I can still finish the submission. If I need to, just like the mayflower sweep, I can reach under his leg, and use that to sweep him over to finish the Armbar.
Just look at that again from the other side. We are here, I am going to get good arm control, reaching across in here, I pull this to the center of my body, alright? So I pull it across, got my arm set up now. This foot right in to his hip, this foot goes up and across his back, as high as I can.
Now I am going to take this leg, as I push myself up, I am going to swing it round his head, and bring my heels towards my butt. Now if he tries to stand up, I can extend the Armbar and finish him here, or just like the mayflower, I can reach under his leg, give him a little push with my legs, stretch him out, finish the Armbar from there.
So look at that from another angle. We are here, I get a good arm setup, drag his elbow to the middle of my chest, hold him right here, this leg, this foot goes into his hip. This leg up and across. Notice this leg, that's just sitting here lazy, I am going to really hook it over his shoulder blades, really hard.
This foot now goes up and around, if I need help I can take this arm just like the louts sweep. I am going to hook his leg, see that my hand just came through right there. I go in. still controlling his arm, grabbing right there. and I will just give him a little push with my legs, and I can finish him with the Armbar.
From the other way, from there, we are here, I get a good arm setup, grab it and pull it in the center of my body. If I just try this Armbar from around here, I can never get my hips in the right position. So I am going to pull across. This arm goes across his face, foot in the hip.
This leg goes across his shoulder blade, I create a 90 degree angle with our bodies, here, this leg goes up and across. I have got the Armbar or his hands reaches under, give him a little bump, into the Armbar. That is the Armbar setup from the guard position.
