ARMBAR
Alright guys, I have showed how to set up the Armbar, both from the Side Mount and the Mount, now we are going to show how to set up the Armbar from the Guard. It's the same ending effect, we are still hyper extending the elbow, still that straight Armbar, we are just going to try to get to it from a bottom position on the Guard.
So we found ourself in Guard. The most important part for the Armbar is the setup. I want to take this arm, and I want to snake it through, and grab, just above his elbow, in between his elbow and his shoulder, I want to grab onto the back of his arm. Not grabbing here, because he will just slide his arm out. I am not trying to grab here, this is good to hold it steady until I can reach over and grab this one. I am not grabbing the wrist; some people say grab the wrist, especially if you have a gi, you won't have much control here, I am going to grab just above the elbow.
This hand is going to come up and grab across his neck, and pull him in tight to me. I am literally going to cross my hands; one, two, grab the arms, reach up, and I hold the head.
Now, pay attention to my left leg. I break my Guard open. My left foot goes on his hip. I am going to use that to turn me. My right leg goes across his shoulder blades, up high, and pinching down.
Then just like the Mount Setup, I am going to take my left leg, out and around, around his head, pinch my knees together, same way to finish the Armbar. I can lift and finish the arm from there, or like the Hook or the Mayflower Sweep, I can reach under, grabbing his leg, rolling him, and now pull out to the Armbar.
Little bit quicker. We are here, we are working from different positions of holding the head, grab the arm, grab there. Use that to turn me, across the shoulder blades, over, finish or kick him down by my legs, finish the arm.
This angle, we are on Guard, I reach up and through, grab the head, open my Guard, and step on his hip. Some people say step on the ground, I like to step on his hip. Pinch, turn; I can finish from here, or I can reach under and roll him, now I can finish from here.
One last time. We are here, I snake the arm. I reach up and across, grabbing it, pulling him down, open my Guard, across the body here, and I take the arm or reaching under. See my hands, I am reaching under. All I have to do is bring that up toward my head, you will feel how the leg goes over. From here, I kick with my legs, cross his head over, and now finish the arm.
That's your basic Armbar from Guard.
