ARMBAR, WHITE BELT MOUNT
The next submission that we want to talk about is your basic Armbar. Lot of different setups for this. We are going to cover some and a little bit later the series we are actually going to work on the basic ways to set up the Armbar. There are two basic ways that I like to do it. The first way is, if you are grappling another beginner, they will often times make this mistake. When you are low in your mount, they will try to bench press you, they will try to do this.
That's perfect, we want his arms as straight as possible, okay. So when I am here and I feel him start to bench press, I want to take my arms, in this case I am going to attack this arm. So I weave my arms, one goes under, one goes over, and I put my hands right on top of each other, right on his chest, right his sternum, okay?
I am going to use that to lift my weight and twist my body, because I got to take this leg, since I am attacking this arm. I got to take this leg, and I got to throw it over his head, alright? You will see how this works, it sounds complicated, but it's really easy. So my opponent is trying to bench press me, I feel it, I weave my arms, I pinch in, right there, alright, right on top of his sternum. I lift, and I twist my body. I swing this outside leg all the way around, okay? I got a good base here, all the way around, all the way over his head.
Now, you will notice that I have hooked his arm, couple of key things, you need to know about Armbar. One, you are going to have him pinched in as close to you as possible. I don't want to attempt his Armbar from way out here. It's the biggest mistake that I see beginners make, they want to rather get the Armbar, is because it's way too much space in there. I want to be in here, as close to him as possible, so I can really lock in his Armbar, okay?
Next thing you need to know, pinch your knees together. I am trying to eliminate all space there is between our two bodies. I want to be as tight as possible, okay. So I have got to pinched him in my legs, I have got my knees pinched together, really isolate this arm. Once I isolate this arm, I laid back, his thumb is up, that means his elbow is down. In this case, I am going to lift my hips up towards the ceiling, and his hands stays flat on my chest, here, very powerful arm lock. You are going to hyper extend your opponent's elbow, going the other way.
We are here, he tries to bench press us. I attack by putting my arms, my hands flat on his sternum, I twist my body to my left leg over, so from here, all the ways up, and over, down to the Armbar, okay? I get right here, my knees are pinched together, my feet are pulling in tight, and are laid back with the arm. His thumb is up, that means his elbow is down, I just raised up on my hips, get the arm locked, very powerful setup.
The next way that I would really like to set this up, is Americana. You are going to hear us talking about training your tacts together throughout this entire series, that's very important. Well, the first things that you need to work on, is how to get the basic submissions themselves. Well, in this case he is literally going to help us with one of the submissions, by getting out of the other one.
So we are going to attack the Americana on this side, as we are attacking it, he is going to feel the Americana. He is going to reach under and grab his own arm to help support it. When he does, we are just going to go head and do the rest of that Armbar, alright? So we are going to start out by attacking this arm, but when goes to protect it, we are going to finish him with this arm.
So we are here, we attack Americana, he goes to protect it. As soon as he goes to protect it, I go up and around. My feet having pinched and close to my body, my knees are closed together, I sit back, there is no space in between us, his hand is on my chest, his thumb is up, means his elbow is down, raise my hips up, get the Armbar.
From the other side, we are here, attacking Americana, he wants to protect his arm, so he reaches through. As soon as he reaches through, I come up, sit around. Now all the way in here, no space, I keep his elbow flat on my stomach, keep him pinched in my legs, my knees are pinched together, I just laid back, his thumb is up, his elbow is down, raise up, get the Armbar.
That's your basic Armbar from the mount position, you are going to enter that Armbar many, many different ways. We are going to set it up, a ton of different ways throughout the series, but that's your basic Armbar. Practice it, make sure your partner is attacking quickly. So that's your basic Armbar, basic Armbar from the mount position.
