BELLY DOWN ARMBAR ESCAPE
Next Armbar Escape that we are going to work on is called the Belly Down Escape. Normally this comes when your opponent is trying the armbar out of the guard position, and you end up; both of you kind of belly down, and you have got to find a way to get out of there. Some people call this the Helicopter Escape or Belly Down Escape.
So we are in the guard. One of the first things that we got to understand is when he starts to extend us with his position, we have got to put our hand, flat, palms down on his chest. If we don't do that, if our thumb is up, it will break our arm. I am going to repeat that, your palm needs to be flat on his chest.
We are going to be walking around it that way, you will feel it real quick when you are trained, if you do it wrong, you will break their arm. So there's not one right way to do it.
So our opponent goes for this armbar, and ends up like this. Immediately, I have to turn my palm, faced down onto his chest. When I do that, I am going to walk my hips up and around him. So we have gone to the Belly Down position. My palm is flat, he straightens me out, from here, palm down. I come around, up into a side mount position. From here it will become a scramble for position, but that's fine, we will end up in a side mount.
Another angle. We are here. My opponent has grabbed this armbar. Immediately, when I feel this go up, he had the armbar stacked in right here, immediately, palm, flat on his chest, and as he rolls, I roll it out.
I am not out of the woods just yet, he can still break my arm, so I got to move. With my hands flat on his chest, I walk over his back, and come up into a side mount.
One last thing. We are here, our opponent goes for the armbar, he gets it locked in. Immediately, right here, I know he has this armbar, I have to put my hands flat on his chest, as he flattens me up. So we go here, hands flat, and immediately I rotate around and come up into a side mount position.
That's your Belly Down Escape for the armbar. It's a good way to escape anytime you have been frightened with this armbar, and your opponent stretches you out, you end up down on your chest, it's a good way for you to come up and face the opposition.
