MAYFLOWER SWEEP
Alright, the next sweep that we are going to use to set up is called the Mayflower sweep. I have heard they call it a lot of things the Helicopter sweep, few other names but I call it Mayflower. It sets up a lot of times after you try the Scissor Sweep. We are going to show you both with the scissor sweep and without. We are going to start without it.
So from this angle -- you have to be careful with this one on how you time this, especially in a Mayflower because if I just go reaching under here, I am going to get punched a lot. So you really got to be aware of your opponent's hand and you got to be aware where your head is. What I am going to do is the same setup but I am going to reach down in between my leg and his leg and out the backside. We are going to show this from multiple angles so you will get to see it. But the setup is the same as the scissor almost except for instead of holding here, I am actually going to reach to him and grab his leg.
My legs are not going cross his body this time. This time what I am going to do, when I use this, I am going to use this I am going to use it to turn me. This leg goes as far out as possible. My right leg is across his body. I am going to use that momentum, that swinging momentum to pull his head down and lift his leg with my hand and to swing my legs over.
So we are here, all-in-one motion. I bring him straight over to mount. Alright, again, from the other side. I am here. I reach down and under. I bring this leg around over to mount. A lot of times I will use this one right after I try the Scissor Sweep. I will go through the scissor and it for any reason if he bases his knee out or whatever, I can't get the scissor sweep over straight into this one. I will reach in.
Now this leg that was scissoring just pops out and this leg replaces it on the other side, here. We talked a lot about chaining our attacks together. We are going to chain our sweeps. We are going to start with the Scissor Sweep. For instance if we try to scissor him to our right and he bases out and he blocks it, we are then going to attack with the Mayflower to the left. We always want our attacks to attack his base anytime we are trying to sweep him, alright.
So, putting those two together in real speed. I go for the Scissor Sweep and bases out I immediately switch, I come up into a mount. That's your Mayflower, Helicopter or whatever you want to call it. Practice this one. Practice real carefully with your opponent's arms. Make sure your opponent doesn't try to reach out and catch his base and twists his wrist while you are practicing.
