SINGLE LEG VARIATION
Setup is the exact same, but a lot of times, especially against wrestlers, for guys that have a really good base or strong legs, when we land in the Single Leg, we are actually holding the leg. Some guys sprawl the other leg back, it's hard to push them over. Some guys will sprawl their head down, their shoulders down on your back, it makes it hard to lift. So we have got a little variation from that.
That variation is, once we have got this set up here; and he scoots back and he tries to sprawl or any combination thereof, instead of just driving forward with our shoulder, instead of just pushing through him, we are actually going to lift his leg off the ground, okay?
I want to think about trying to pull that leg behind me and pushing my shoulder to the ground, and you will see this when you are working with your partner. You are going to see a big difference in the leverages you have here.
So bend here, I am not just going to push through, I am actually going to lift and pull. Now, notice that just because I am lifting and pulling, when he hit the ground, I am still going to isolate this leg, I am still going to hold it. So he hits the ground, I don't just let it go and jump on him, he is going to put me in guard, I don't want that.
We are going to stay here. After I have just taken him down, same thing. I am going to put my shoulder outside of his leg, and I am going to literally crawl all the way up to his side mount. So here, same thing, all the way over to side mount.
From the other side. We have shot in, we have got the single leg hooked, if we are having a hard time, he is bending his knee, he is laying down, he is based back, we can't push him over. We are going to pull this ankle just up off the ground. I am going to push forward, kind of at an angle. So we are here. I keep this, glue my shoulder down, go up to a side mount. That's a variation of your single leg.
