SINGLE UNDER PASS
If he has got you in his guard, we need to get across his legs, we need to get control of our hips, we need to move pass his leg. Here are a couple of ways we are going to do that.
First, we need to open the guard. The first way we are going to do that is we are going to grab onto his belt, or his waistline. We are going to use that as a fulcrum to open up the guard. You see he has got a close guard from here, we can't just go working past it. We need to posture up. I like to leave one hand in the middle of his chest, that lets me know if he sits up, that gives me a little chance to push him back down. But more importantly, it just lets me know if he sits up.
Second, I want to grab this, I don't want to just be leaning on his thigh like this; lot of guys have tough legs, there is no leverage here, this is just my body weight. I am going to grab right here, and I am going to push him down on this leg. I am not just pushing straight down to the floor, I want to push it down with an angle to run it off the end of my leg. So guard closed. I posture up. I am going to push down to open the guard.
The first leg that I am going to go to pass it, after its open, I am going to push it to the ground, and I am going to come up. I want to isolate this leg.
The next thing I am going to do is I am going to switch these hands; run this one underneath his leg. We are going to show this from multiple angles, but from here, I am going to -- basically just like the Armbar, I am going to take it, I am going to drive forward. I like to reach up and grab this shoulder. I want to keep this leg isolated, remember getting in the triangle we just showed. I am going to take this, I am going to push, I don't want to necessarily move my head underneath his leg, I want to move his leg around my hand. So I am going to go from here. I am going to drive forward till it pops out, down and around. Get a good Side Mount from here.
Again, I am here, postured up, grabbing the waistline, break the guard. When I break the guard, I want to isolate away, reach under, stack him up, lean forward, pop that over my head, come around to a good Side Mount.
From this angle. I am here, I break the guard open; reaching under, isolate the leg, reach under. I drag his leg up. Notice that I am not coming down to try to get under his leg, I am bringing his leg up to me; keeping good posture. Reach down, drive forward. Come around, you establish a good Side Mount.
One last time, from a different angle. We are here playing guard. I posture up, grab the waistline, break the guard open. I isolate that leg. Notice I am not stepping all the way over it. I have still got this foot on the ground, inside his leg. I am just putting my shin over his thigh.
So isolate that leg. I reach under his leg, pull it up; I am not pulling from below the knee, I am pulling from his thigh, pulling up. When I pull up, I drive forward, twist. You come around and do a good Side Mount.
Full speed looks like this. We are here at posture up, at guard, isolate. That's your Single Under Pass.
We are going to show a variation of the Single Leg, the Single Under Pass. If you can't break your opponent's guard for any reason, or if he has really long legs, you are having a hard time, there is one way to get around it. We are here. Instead of me breaking his guard and isolating his leg, what we are going to do is I am going to posture up and put my weight down on him. I want to take my leg and put it up here.
I won't put it up here where he can grab it, I am going to put it back here. See how much distance this Mount gives me, how much space. Instead of in here, where everything is closed, I can't work. When I posture up and put my leg out, now I have lot of space where I can come in.
Be really carefully about that triangle from here. I like to cheat by putting my elbow on this leg and my hand on this leg.
So I am here. Posture up, reach under, protect myself from the triangle. When I have it, I like to punch this toward his shoulder, punching it over, then coming around. Very similar to the first way we showed, it's just for guys who have long legs, if he has strong legs, you can't break his guard for any reason, or if he is just not being very active in guard, he is not reacting to the things that you are doing.
So we are here, playing guard. I posture up, I step out, reach under, I cheat, block, make sure I have a good triangle. Take this hand, punch it towards the other shoulder, here, getting my posture up. I make his leg go around my head, over, and to a Side Mount. This is a variation of the Single Under Pass.
