SITTING BUTTERFLY GUARD PASS
Our next pass is going to be passing on our opponent's open guard or lot of people call it Butterfly Guard. This is a pretty aggressive guard, and people have a really good Butterfly Guard, and it sets you up for a lot of different sweeps from here.
So one of the first ways we are going to do this is we are going to reach in and we are going to reach underneath his legs, underneath both of them. We are going to move this leg so that you can see that we are grabbing the other one, but when reaching in, we are hooking, we are just using the monkey grip around his leg. So that you can see it, I am grabbing his other leg, just like this. I am just cupping it. So we are in a Butterfly Guard, I am reaching under, and cupping.
As I am doing that, this hand is going above his knee, because I am going to pull straight out and roll over his legs. From here, pull. We go straight down into a side now. It's a very simple, but very effective guard pass.
From the other side, we are here. He is playing to whatever sweeps. Reach under, and grab his leg. See, I am grabbing right here. I reach under and grab his leg. This hand, just above the knee. I like to push the knees together. As I do that, I pull with this hand, I push with this hand, here.
Over to side now. This side move. I am reaching under, all the way through to his other leg. This hand, just above the knee. As I pull, I am here.
The same angle going the other way. We are reaching under and grabbing. This hand, just above the knee. I push straight out, come straight up into his side now.
Again, it's a very simple, but very effective pass.
Last angle. we are here. I reach under both legs; I am not reaching in here, if I reach in here, he is going to set up different triangles and sweeps. When I go in, I reach under both legs, I am grabbing, right on the outside of his leg. I like to grab the outside of the hip, push them together. Then, watch my far side leg, its going straight back. That way I can pull his leg out, and around.
Go the other way. We are here. I reach in, grabbing, pinch his knees together, his leg goes straight, and I pull, and push down into a side mount, length and a good side mount base.
