Hey guys, on this video I will be showing how to defragment your hard drive or you idle. Basically while you are not using your computer you can make optimize the hard drive so that it loads a lot faster, it loads file a lot faster. Basically defragmentation is one let say you download a large file it is going to save it to your hard drive but it sometimes save that in pieces depending on how much free space you have.
So, you downloaded one file but it is on your hard drive in like 20 pieces so when you open it, it has to search your hard drive in put all the pieces together before executing it. So that is where defragmentation becomes useful because it takes all those fragments of the files scattered across the disk, put them together. So, whenever you try to access the file or program it is much faster and plus it has added features like maybe it will sort the files that are most use in put them on to outside of the disk. So, those files will even load even faster.
What they call the seek time decreases, so that is what defragmenting does. The defragment program I am going to recommend in this video is JKD defrag and I will tell you why in a minute just goggle search it, click the first results and you will see it here in the zip file just click it, download it, and extract it. It was 7-zip or WinZip, WinRAR whatever extracting program you have.
Okay in here you can see the files I have JKD for if I double click it will start defragging that is the easy they just double click the file in it will start defragging. There is no need to install anything just double click the executable in that works. Also it has a CMD version just double click the CMD version it low open in dos and will continue working until it finishes and it will automatically close. So, you can setup command line defragmenting operations. It also has a screensaver, screensaver is easy to use just drag the SCR file into windows, you receive Con flash windows folder.
I am just going to drag and drop, there it is and now if I am going to my desktop right click go to properties, screensaver I can select it from the drop down list. You will have JKD defrag screensaver and I can set the setting so I guess it does not have setting.
But I can said a wake time in my computer is idle for 10 minutes defragment, okay so that is one way to make your computer defragment. Well, it is idle another way is to go to your control panel usually if you go to start, you click the start button you go to settings control panel and scroll down you should find schedule task, easier you can probably just type it in at any folder typing schedule tasks. And it should jump to the schedule task section.
You can just right click, click new, schedule task and I am going to call defrag. Now, what I did was I extracted my defragment program the JKD frags into a folder called defrag on my hard drive. So, I am just copy location and I can copy the program then or use the command line version.
And next I am going to schedule it, let say schedule, schedule task whenever I am idle when idle for let say two minutes, five minutes it does not matter whatever your preferences and I think settings, I do not know about settings. I do not need to master that, I just click apply and set your username on windows if you have password say the password and you should be okay.
Now, I have the defragment program set to run whenever I am idle. I just use JKD frags in example. If you have another preferred defragmenting program you can use that instead and add it to schedule task in the exact same way. If they gives you an error in says you cannot add a task for any reason make sure you go to services.msc and make sure that schedule task service in the event log service is enabled. Otherwise, it will let you add a task.
Now, if you want JKD frag do not hesitate to review the rest of the page. It has tons of options, it tells you how to install the screensaver if you use windows 2000 it might be windows NT folder there you have to set it in. It has a lot of command line options too like optimize by sorting all files by size, by name, by last access, by last change, by creation time. It has a lot of command line options you can use. So, you can send the whole batch of flags and parameters based on what you want to defragmenting program to do.
So, it is really cool program it is really useful, it is really flexible in it is actually really safe. How safe is it? It is pretty damn safe I do been using here for several years. So, I never had a problem with it, works fine, and it actually makes you a disk could be faster.
Okay, here is the list of popular defragmenting program that people often recommend. All to defrag a hidden check it out but it also free like JKD, it is source forward project. Perfect disk all and all in needs other ones are actually commercial ones that cost money but lot of people what argued they are better for whatever feature or another.
I personally have tried all and all perfect disk I do not see a difference. JKD frag does a good job if it does make a difference and makes a very minimal difference after the defragmentation is done in that is on Quirks. I do not really recommend windows defrag this kind a slower and simple. This is a simple defray.
But anyway thanks for listening for this video, post your opinions. If you have another program or you have another way to stand it up post a video response. Anyway, thanks for listening.
