So, we got one of our last nice days outside in September and I want to use it to show you how to do a Make Shift Flow Test for your—figure out how much flow you have available for your sprinkler system. So, what you are going to need is 5 gallon pail, measuring cup, and your water outlet.
What you are going to do first is 5 gallon pail does not actually hold 5 gallons of water. So, what you are going to do, use your measuring cup to figure out how full you need to fill the 5 gallon pail to get to 5 gallons so, we are just going to go ahead and fill that up using our measuring cup. And you know, 5 gallons is about 19 meters.
So, you are going to put here 19th meter in there, 5 gallons, then you take a marker, you are just going to mark of, how high the water level is. Then you can do it on both sides if you need to, because it will probably wash off when you dump the water. So, next thing you are going to do is dump the water then we will get on to measuring our flow.
So just check your watch, and you are going to start this flowing full, without the bucket underneath. When you get to --try to fill up the bucket, and stop your time when you get to the mark you made on the bucket. Now, that was about 35 seconds or so, so then, what you are going to do, is you are going to take 300 and divide it by the number of seconds you have so in my case, I do 300 divide it by 35 and that number is going to get me my gallons per minute. So, that is basically how you do a flow test.
