Hey YouTube! It’s TechSupportGoneBad. And before I actually start the tutorial which is going to be how to get that banner on your MySpace on the top of your MySpace, I want to thank everyone, all of my fans, all of my subscribers anyone that help support TechSupportGoneBad, because today, I reached my 500 subscriber. And so, I just wanted to thank everyone and you guys have no idea how much that means to me. So thank again.
So now, for the tutorial, the reason I'm making this tutorial is because of the video I made on how to make a customize MySpace layout using Photoshop, part one and part two. It was a great success, I’ve got a lot of use on it, but the one main concern that people had and the most commonly asked question for this video that I got was how to get that darn banner on the top of your MySpace instead of the bottom of your MySpace which is set as the default.
Well, today, I'm going to show you guys how to do that. Now, here I have TechSupportGoneBad in MySpace, so let me just show you that real quick. So here is TechSupportGoneBad MySpace. Now, what you want to do is click on profile and click on edit profile, and it will take you to where I am right now.
So now, you want to just scroll down and you want to find the spot where the banner image is supposed to go. So there is going to be a bit of coding. So it’s going to be at the bottom bottom. So every coding from the bottom bottom, it’s going to go a little up until the first time you see less than sign style and greater than sign, that’s the whole coding for the banner.
So again, it’s going to be from the bottom bottom of the HTML code that I gave you guys and it’s going to go up, it’s going to say a couple of stuff and then it’s going to say less than sign style, greater than sign. And then you’re going to see another less than sign/style greater than sign above that, but you want to ignore that.
So everything from there right from the bottom to he place where it says—the first time it says style is about that banner. All that HTML code is just for that banner. Well, what you want to do is if you have done it right so far, you already have the background image URL right where it is supposed to go. So you want to right click on that and copy it.
So again, in my actual tutorial for how to make a customize space layout, when you get the HTML code for this, it’s going to say banner image URL goes here. So that URL that you put right there, you want to right click on it and press copy. Next, you want to delete everything, yes I said, yes you heard me correctly, you want to delete everything from the bottom bottom to the first time you see style.
So all that for the banner right there, you want to delete all that, because I'm going to show you guys an easier way on how to get that banner on the top of your MySpace. Since a lot of you don’t know that much HTML, that’s why I'm going to show you guys an easier. So you just want to delete all of that.
Next, you want to go to the web site that’s in the video description, you want to click on that link and it will take you to this web site. It’s freecodesource.com. Now, there is a section of freecodesource.com that it has a generator that lets you put that banner on the top of your MySpace—yeah, on the top of your MySpace.
So you want to paste the picture URL where it says picture URL and you want to put the picture height which should be 200 pixels if followed my tutorial. And then margin life, 200 should work fine, but some other stuff is like MySpace’s are different for some reason. Mine, I found out to be negative 640. Yeah, I know it’s far off from 200, but 200 pixels is going to be its default. And you just want to start off with 200 and then I can show you how to change it if the 200 doesn’t work fine.
So I'm just going to start off with 200 too. So it’s going to be margin, it’s going to be 200, the picture height should be 200 if you follow my tutorial. And if not, just find out the height of your picture and just put it there and the picture URL should be the URL of your picture that you uploaded on TinyPic. So just click generate code and it’s going to give you some HTML.
So now, what you want to do is just select all of that HTML, right click on it, and press copy and then paste it where the code was supposed to go in the first place. So yeah, give me a second, okay. So where that code for the banner that you just deleted, you want to paste the new HTML code right there. And then another thing that I'm going to show you guys how to do is FreeCodeSource.com is going to automatically put a link to their web site on your MySpace. So if you copy and paste that, the last thing on there is going to be a link to the MySpace. So what you want to do if you—obviously, most people wouldn’t want that link, like I don’t, you want to delete that. So it’s really simple to do.
Now, from the bottom, you’re going to see two things. It’s going to be less than sign/center greater than sign and then less than BR greater than sign. Now, those two HTML code, places like there, you want to leave. So everything from then on to the next time you see center, that’s what you want to delete. So in the end, if you delete all that, you’re going to have two centers right next to each other. So it’s going to be less than sign center, greater than sign and then less than sign/center greater than sign, and then less than sign BR, greater sign. If you do it right, the last three HTML phrases should be that, and if you delete that, then there will be no more link to that web site on your MySpace. So then, you want to have, like a ugly link on MySpace and it would just look better.
So next, you want to just click save changes. Once you put save changes, you want to preview your profile. So right here, click on view my profile. I'm going to open it in a new tab, and as you could see, my banner is way off to the right side. So that’s why for certain reason, that code didn’t work, the margin left didn’t work good for MySpace. So, what you want to do, instead of doing all that steps over and over again and then copying and pasting it, all you want to do is just change that margin left value.
So you want to scroll down all the way to the area that you just paste to that HTML code and the margin, you just see a value that says margin and then it should say negative 200 pixels if you left the default at 200. Now, you would just want to mess around with it and change it. It says over here on the web site, on that web site, it says if it’s a negative number or if it is a higher number, it’s going to go further left, and if it is a lower number, it’s going to go further right.
So as you could see on my MySpace, it’s to the right aligned. So I want to put a negative number t bring it back to the left. So that exceeds to the right, so I'm going to put a negative number to bring it back to the left. So I'm going to put negative 400. So again, change the margin left value to negative 400 pixels, press save changes and then click view my profile.
Now, you only need to do this if it didn’t come out good the first time. Now, as you can see, it went to the left a little bit. Now, you just want to keep changing it until you get it permanently on the right spot that you wanted. Now, I happen to know that my margin left value for MySpace is negative 640 pixels. So all I have to do is write negative 640, press save changes and press on view profile and there you have it. As you can see, my banner is on the top of my MySpace.
And that’s pretty much it, and it’s really simple and the last part that I showed you guys, that’s only if the margin left value didn’t work good the first time and your MySpace banner isn’t centered on the top of your MySpace. So instead of repeating all of that, you could just go ahead and just change that one thing and keep pressing save changes and just see what happens.
And that’s basically it for you guys that want to put that banner on the top of your MySpace, there you have it, and I'm going to post this video as a video response to how to make a customize MySpace layout using Photoshop, both part one and part two. So from now on, if you need any help with that, just check out this video and it should help you out.
All right, so hope you guys learned something and I hope that it worked for you guys. If not, just message me on MySpace and I’ll try and help you out even further. All right, so until the next tutorial, I’ll see you guys later.
