Operator: Mac 411, how can I help you?
Male: Yes, hi. I am pretty annoyed with the printer queue always staying up at my dock after I print a document. How can I hide it automatically?
Operator: Let me show you how.
Okay. So, here we are on my desktop, I am going to use a plain old text edit application to show you something quick. And, I just wrote a simple letter test here. And at the bottom, you see my dock. What I am going to do is that I am going to go ahead and print this document and you see, it is asking me for the printer to print. I am going to go ahead and click on print. And what happened is that you sent it to the printer which is not a big deal. But, I don’t know if any of you have noticed this. The printer queue remains in your dock always and that is a very annoying feature in my personal opinion with Leopard.
Now, I always though that I had to live with this and what I would do is just right click on it and click on quit. But, there is a better way of doing this. You can just right click on the printer and then there is this auto quite function. When you click on that, your printer queue will quite immediately after printing. So I am going to go ahead and quit this. I am going to go ahead and print again this document. Okay, we print and you see here my queue is being sent and then it goes away. And, that is it.
So, if you want to get rid of that annoying printer on your dock, just click on right mouse, auto quit, and you should be set to go
