How To Install a Storm Door Video

The video is only helpful if one needs to install a NEW storm door. I am replacing a storm door. There were no instructions for door removal.

Thank you for such a informative and helpful video. I had to replace my storm door because once upon a time my in laws were invited over. It is a deceivingly simple task of having your in laws over, but considering they resemble two supporting cast members from the Hills Have Eyes and inbreds from Alabama. Now add these freaks to the mixture with a few alcoholic beverages and we have two drunken Neandathrals wrestling in my living room floor. Long story short, I needed a new screen door. I visited the local Gypsy market and they attempted to sell me a horse. Soon after, I attended the Home depot where they assisted me in every way possible. This was helpful.

How To Install a Storm Door - The Home Depot

Installing a storm door can be easily accomplished by the average do-it-yourself work. On a scale of one to five with five being very difficult, this project is about a two. Always ensure that you have the following tools and supplies when installing a storm door. A hacksaw, carpenter’s level, electric drill with drill bits, Philips head screw driver, pliers, tape measure and safety glasses. Today, we’re installing a storm door on a door with brick molding. Doors without brick mold would require some modification to make the storm door fit properly. Let’s get started. Put the rain cap, also called the Z-bar in place. Temporarily secure the rain cap with a screw. The side which way you want your door to open and attach the hinged side Z-bar to the side of the door that you want the door to swing from. Take a measurement of the opening height. Measure from the underside of the top Z-bar to the top of the sill, use these measurements to mark and cut the hinged side Z-bar at a slight slope to the outside. With the door in the closed position, place it in the opening and push the hinged side of the door tightly against the jamb, and with the side Z-bar touching the bottom of the top Z-bar. Place a level on the hinged side Z-bar and adjust the door in the opening until it is plum and level. Secure the door with the supplied screws. Open the door and install the remaining screws to secure the hinged side Z-bar. Adjust the top Z-bars so that there is an even reveal between the top of the door and the bottom side of the Z-bar. Secure the top Z-bar with the supplied screws. Measure from the bottom of the rain cap to the top of the sill on the latched side of the door, mark the measurement of the side Z-bar and cut it to length using a hacksaw. Be sure to adjust the cut to match the slope of the sill. Put the handle side Z-bar in place and adjust the gap according to the manufacturer’s directions. Be sure to maintain a consistent gap along the entire length of the door. Attach the Z-bar using the supplied screws. Install the handle set and associated hard wares recommended by the manufacturer. Slide the expander off the bottom of the door and install the sweep on the expander. Cut off any of the additional sweep. Install the expander on the bottom of the door using the provided screws. Ensure the sweep touches the sill evenly across the entire length of the sweep. Install the door closer and hard ware and adjust the door closer by loosening or tightening the adjustment screw, so that it closes fast enough but the door does not slam. Some applications use a closer at the top and bottom. In these cases you’d install the bottom closer in the same manner as the top.
