Hello, I am Alan B. Densky. I would like to welcome you to Chapter 2 in my series on how to lose weight using hypnosis. My goals in this series are to entertain you while I give you a set of tools that you can actually use to make rapid changes in your life and your lifestyle.
In Chapter 1, we learned that appetite is defined as eating and drinking for relaxation and pleasure, and hunger is defined as the body's call for nourishment. In this chapter we are going to talk about what you can do to quickly eliminate the cravings that cause you to eat for relaxation and pleasure. There is a law of nature called the law of equal exchange. The law states that if you want something, then you will have to pay for it with something else of equal value. In some cases you pay with money, and then in another cases you pay with action and follow through. The trick is that if you are eating for relaxation and pleasure, and you want to suppress you appetite, then you must pay for that appetite suppression by substituting some other behavior that will provide the same exact relaxation and pleasure for you. The behaviors that you substitute must be based on the following criteria. One, they must be as effective as eating is at providing the relaxation and pleasure. Two, they must be as available as eating is for providing the relaxation and pleasure. In other words, it must be something that you can do almost anywhere on the spur of the moment. And three, they must be more consciously acceptable than eating is for providing relaxation and pleasure.
The real magic is to learn how to program the unconscious mind to automatically make you substitute the new behavior. How is that done? I will give you a hint. Hypnotherapy CDs. Hypnosis, yes. But not the kind that you are probably thinking of. Not by using post-hypnotic suggestions in the traditional sense, because the most people post-hypnotic commands and suggestions will defiantly not work. In fact, what will probably happen is that you will end up doing the opposite of what is suggested, and unfortunately 99% of all the hypnosis CDs available on the market today are based on traditional hypnosis, which means that they give you direct post-hypnotic commands and suggestions. To be successful what you need are Hypnotherapy CDs that are based mainly on Ericksonian Hypnosis, and Neuro-linguistic programming. Ericksonian Hypnosis does not rely on direct post-hypnotic suggestions. It offers far more effective ways of convincing the unconscious mind to accept new ideas without resisting them. And NLP does not rely on post-hypnotic suggestions at all. It uses the thought patterns that create a person's cravings, and urges to eliminate those cravings and urges.
Now I would like you get ready to learn a powerful mental exercise, so what I would like you to do is to sit back and get into a comfortable position. You can leave your eyes open and watch the imagery on the screen, or you can close them and use your imagination if you prefer. Take a nice, slow, deep breath. And let it out slowly and allow your body to relax. Now take another nice slow deep breath, and as you exhale feel the relaxation, start to spread throughout all the parts of your body. Allow yourself to remember the most beautiful sunset that you have ever seen, or simply watch the sunset on the screen. If you or anyone else is in the image that you are imagining, take yourself out. As you gaze at the soothing image, imagine that you can feel the comfortable temperature of the air against your skin. Finally allow yourself to recall the smells, and any of the sounds of nature that you heard at that time. Please take a few moments and enjoy that mental movie.
Now break that state by looking around the room, and then mentally come back to me. If you did the exercise correctly, then your thoughts make you feel nice and relaxed, that's because the source of our feelings is our thoughts. So just as thinking about a sunset maybe you feel more relaxed, the source of happiness, joy, peace, sorrow, stress and even upset is our thoughts. So imagine how much more relaxed you would feel in general, if every time you started to think about a stressful situation, or enough setting thought, your unconscious mind will automatically change that thought to a relaxing peaceful thought instead. Appetite is eating and drinking for relaxation and pleasure. There are specific NLP techniques that you can use to train your mind to automatically distract you from stressful upsetting thoughts, and direct you to relaxing peaceful thoughts, and that feeling of peace will help tool in the nature appetite.
The second reason that people feel urges and cravings is called the Condition Response.
