Lorraine Hooper: Hi! I’m Lorraine Hooper from Lola Cookies and Treats in Leesburg
Virginia better known as Lola. This is my bakery, welcome to it. This is
where we make all kinds of fresh bake all scratch goodies everyday. And
today we’re going to be making chopped peppermint bark just in time for
the holidays. I walked you through every step you need to do in order to
make this from putting together our ingredients in the mixer, preparing
them in the cooking base, baking them and putting on our nice chocolate
topping and the broken bits of candy cane to make it just like beautiful and
cutting them into bars.
So, before we get started you’re going to need a few tools. You will need a
nice sharp knife for cutting, a spatula to lift them out of the pan when
we’re done. Another nice rubber spatula for spreading the chocolate, you
will need your measuring tools tablespoons and teaspoons. We have four
sticks of butter, we a cup and half of granulated sugar and one cup of
brown sugar. Four tablespoons of water, four teaspoons of vanilla extract
in a separate bowl of three cups of flour, had teaspoons and half of baking
soda. One teaspoon salt, one cup of cocoa American style cocoa, and some
melted chocolate chips, three cups of melted chocolate chips. Those
together will make the base and for the trample need an additional three
cups of chocolate chips not melted. And 10 ounces or roughly a cup and
half of broken bits of candy canes which I break in a food processor. But if
you don’t have one or you prefer you can also break those up into bits by
putting them in a bag and just smashing out with the hammer, with the
rolling pin with whatever you feel like smashing it.
I have 20 years of baking experience and have one multiple prices for my
bake goods including critics choice awards for tasting chocolate desserts
this year at a regional event called Chocolate Galore and Multiple Blue
Ribbons at the Virginia’s State Fair. So, if you’re ready there is a couple
of safety things that we need to bare in mind before we get started. When
you’re working in a kitchen you always need to be safe, cautious and you
need to be very clean. Baring at mind you should roll up your sleeves, pull
back your hair, wash your hands and we can get started making
peppermint bark.
