This is video tutorial by jimmyR.com and in this tutorial I will be teaching you how to improve your Windows XP performance fairly quickly. I am sure this works on other systems like in windows 98 or 2000 it might work on this I am not sure. I know certain parts too but to be safe, it is for XP.
Now go to My Computer, click properties advance and performance the very top. And here you will see list of settings. Now there is actually button that says adjust for best performance. I know you can not believe it but if you do not like its changes just go back adjust for best appearance and all change will be reverted. That is the first thing you can do to lower the memory and take of your windows.
Another thing you can do is go to start run and type msconfig. So here we have the run box that have in this config and we have system configuration utility. This is where your services and startup program are. So if you have a whole lot of startup programs and you do not know what they are just search on Google and it will tell you, it will give you a little bit more information about the process? For example that is KHALMNPR, KHALMNPR let us say I do not know what that is. I typed it on Google and it gives me more information about the process, it says it is part of my Logitech mouse. So I do not want to disable it so I just go down list prompt and I disable what I do and do not want.
The same is true for the services except in services are little bit more difficult to find an example of you do not know exactly what they do sometimes. So I recommend you go to start Run and type services.msc and here it gives you very hard descriptions of what the services do. So you can check up and see if you really need it. Sometimes they give like a crib deck message, what the hell is a DCOm service, I do not know.
So again, I just go to Google and type g windows XP services and I like the alter key, I have not seen in this one the stuff one. Yes, it gives you a list of windows services and if you should remove them and when you should remove them. It is very useful like this is the elder geek I use this one a lot and I have these services down here I just have the huge lists of services. I can just go to control F on my browser, I can search for a service like plug and play service and automatically it will scroll down to where that is on the page. So I can just click it and get a little bit more information about that service.
It is very useful tool. I can try to explain few of them like the background intelligent transfer. If you want to disable windows updates, disable that one and disable the automatic updates. Also you can disable your security center if you like using side geek personal firewall instead of windows firewall. I recommend that if you do not use your telephone modem and used uncheck the telephone, you do not need that in the memory. There is all kind of stuff you can disable. Here is a list of my stuff that I have disabled but I do not recommend you to copy it exactly.
I might not need stuff that you do in here like the printers wall. If you have printers, you enable the printer’s wall. I do not have any printer so I do not need that. So that is how you update your system performance very quickly. It does require a lot of searching on Google just to make sure you are not disabling something you do not want to and you can always set up system restored check point so anything you do that might mess things up is undoable. Or you can just re-check all the services and disable stuff again.
