All right folks, Jonathan here. A bit of a tip for you, also tutorial but mainly this is something where you can have a little bit of fun, a couple of pointers, first of all, you need a track that is in beat with the other track. Two particular songs which are the same beats per minute. Secondly, it does not really matter if one is a house track and one is a break beat track or anything like that. In fact, if the beat is slightly different, it makes it more interesting.
Now, why regards to this particular tutorial, what you need to take into consideration very important is the actual timing because you cannot in a sense do this anywhere in the mix. But if you keep in time with bars and with the actual counting, it will sound a lot better. I will show you what we are going to do. Very simple, but very subtle and quite a good effect if done correctly in the mix.
Let us first have a listen to one particular track. Here we go. [music playing] that is the house track, you can hear dump, chi, dump, chi.
Here is the other track. [music playing] what we are actually going to be doing is sort of beat juggling. Normally, if you think about it, if you bring one track in, you are going to actually be bringing, you are playing one track and if you bring a second track in, you are going to theoretically, bring it in on the bass beat, bam. So you hear the first track playing, one, two, three, four. One, two, three, four.
The next track you are going to bring in one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four so in other words, bam, chi, you are going to bring in there. Using this idea, you do not bring it in, on the base beat, you actually bring the other track in on high beat so you will bring it in there.
I will give you a demo. Here we go. [music playing] Again, by just pressing the queue and keeping your finger on the queue you do not necessarily have to press the play because you press the queue and then the music will carry on playing as soon as you take the finger off the queue, it will go back to the beginning so what we will do, we will start that again. Have a listen.
[music playing]
Very subtle, only a tiny difference there but again, it is another tiny little trick that you can bring into the mix. I hope it has been a help. Practice and enjoy.
