Alright folks, Jonathan here. This video is all about changing from a one genre of music to the other. We could have lots of situations where this would happen for example let us say you do the mobile gig and you play some house and all of a sudden someone wants some 60s when you cannot really mix, has into 60s logic came for same key and the same BPM but if it is a different BPM and it is going to be very difficult.
Also, let us say you are playing your set after the other DJ and he or she happens to be playing hip-hop and maybe you want to play some house music so how can you change genres but at the same time which is very important try and keep the continuity of the music, that basically is they word it is the music, it is the actual tone, the key, the feel of the track.
Now, this is basically a demonstration but let us say for example we are going to say play some song and all of a sudden we wanted to play some house, so of course the trouble is soul music is very slow. You know you are looking around about the 100 BPM, 100 Beats per minute, 100 BPM. House music you are looking more 120 up to 130 or maybe 135 BPM so that is one heck of a difference. The last thing you want to start doing is winding the old pitch control on the RNB or the Soul and the house and try messing with that.
The best way of doing it is just shop, bang from one straighter to the other and then you can go straight into the other genre. Alternatively, what you do find some DJ’s they will have the turn table playing, you can do exactly the same on CDJ turntable and now press a couple of buttons so it just goes dead stop, gap, silence so the public will know there is a break and then bang straight in to the next genre. Of course, when you are in a mobile situation you cannot really do that so mainly that idea is for let us say if you are doing set next to someone that will after someone else’s set.
I got a bit of a demonstration for you here, look to the side of the video for the tracks but this track here is based by the seven will come. Alright then, I got you center.
(Demo)
It stops right so and then we got this track here. I will give you sort of an idea how we can go bang, bang straight from one style and straight to the other. The track on the actual CD player is some break beat and then we are going to go into what is Euro hair style so let us see what happens, here we go.
(Demo)
Alright, let us say for example this track here now is the last track from the other DJ and I am about to start on the one list within, we can do quite a few ways.
(Demo)
I am going to move this one forward.
(Demo)
I got this from Reggae.
(Demo)
Okay so basically, what I did was I was listening to the buzz.
One, two, three, four.
One two, three, four.
I listen to the timing and then I wang that one straight in. Alright, we are making a few people looking and ask what is going on but the whole idea is to keep the continuity going where the music is concerned. Now, if you got another idea and you have any other ways of changing from one genre to the other, bang them underneath. Practice and enjoy.
