Alright folks Darrel here today, this video is entitled, “The Stabs.” Now the reason it is called the stabs is got nothing to do with chucking knives at people. What I am going to do is highlighting certain parts of the record to CD to PC program whatever that you are playing and you are using in the mix. Now then, this can be done anytime in the mix, it can be done during the chorus of two tracks mixing together. It can also be done let us say during the chorus of you are playing the song prior to mixing it in. In other words, there are so many DJ’s out there who they will play a record that wait till the end or halfway through the mix. Other one in then just sit there doodling the thumbs or just pretending to mix it in, continue in doing this back and forth, back and forth but once it is in beat, instead of thinking right, what else can I do now? Do the stabs, alright I am going to show you exactly what it is first.
I will show you the demonstration then I will talk a bit more about it. The track I am going to be using is Todd Terry featuring I think it is Jocelyn Brown? Sorry, no it is featuring Martha Wash and Jocelyn Brown there you go then, it was right. This track entitled, “Keep on Jumping”, so I will show you first, give you a demonstration and then we will have another chat about it, here we go.

Okay, have you get the general idea? What I was doing is I was utilizing this button here which is known as the Transformer button on this particular next but it is also used or also can be called the phono-line button which should be on virtually the most mixes anyway. Phono being called turntable line being of course PC CD etcetera, so what are you doing is when you are using utilizing this button, instead of the slider which is a glide up and down on a lot of mixes but of course some mixes you can have a curve effect whereby as soon as you go forward a tiny belt on the actual slider, the sound comes straight in. Generally, on the sliders you have a scale of one to ten the actual sound will eventually slowly come in. With the actual cut switch here, the transform switch on the line switch, it is basically an on off.
Now, what I was doing there, I was editing the sound it was.
(Demo)
It is almost using that troll transformer sound. Now, the reason behind this is if you think about it, if you are playing a tune and you want to mix the next one in but not for say two or three minutes then this is a way of just almost like remixing the song and making it sound a little bit different, a little bit more interesting. Of course as well I was utilizing the bass mid and treble so again it makes and it takes it to another level so it is just going.
(Demo)
You are decreasing the bass, decreasing the mid, decreasing the treble messing around. There are so many different connotations not computations with this. The possibilities are endless, it is up to you to like I said practice and enjoy, have fun in the mix. Hope this has been a help. Do not forget any comments, anything like that bang them underneath and of course everyone and hopefully myself will be able to respond as well. Thank you for watching practice and enjoy. Have I said that? Yes I have, take it easy.
