Alright folks in this video what we are going to be talking about is acapellas and how to mix acapellas. First of all, what is an acapella. Because believe me, like everybody, all the people there do have not the guess, right.
Now then, of course, we all have heard these kinds of songs, 60s. 70s. 80s, 90s, it does not matter. If you turned the radio on, you hear music okay? Now then, when you hear a particular song, you will hear melody, bass line, beat, almost all the stuff but also you hear vocals. And some of the sudden, everything was taken and you are just left with the vocals, everything comes gone, the beat, the melody, the bass line, just the vocals no then, that is an acapella.
In other words, what I am saying is if you have a record and you took everything away but you left the vocals on that record, you will end up with is known, the terminology as an acapella. And also you can have hip-hop songs and what you will find quite often on the 12 inch hip-hop song or on a CD single, you will have the original version, you will have the LP version, you will have the radio version. Quite often the radio version is edited all the swearing etc. Edited on to that so it is meant for the radio then you have the uncut version which is of course has swearing in it. But then also, you will have an acapella in and it is very good beat jugglers because what they will do if they have one record with the beat and then they will mess around with the beat, and then they will incorporate the acapellas so that it will almost make another song utilizing the 2 of the same record.
Now then, this one here, what we are using is this set of records, on defective records, it is basically called “defected acapellas volume 4.”
This one, I am going to mixing in this here (demo)
I cut form this album from Bob Sinclaire and put all the information down, I put a little mixing it, it is tracking type of freedom.
Now then, how do we find the beat in this particular song? If you listen (demo)
Now this is what I do, borrow names comment if you do a different way and listen (demo)
Now then, again this is practice. Some people find these easy, some people find this difficult but then again, it is all about using your ears, listening, relaxing and practicing. First, what it is all about, do not expect to be able to just shut this on and go for it, okay? And get it first time, I mean, I have made some coke(ph) ups and I still do to this day and I probably always will in fact, if I do not make anymore coke(ph) ever again, then I will get worried, alright. Now here we go, what we will do, we will put this particular song on, what actually I will do first, I will play you this cut here, the freedom track from Bob Sinclaire, just play a little bit of it and you will get the general idea.
But then what I want you to do is I am going to have the acapella. It is less, not a little bit higher. This is a good bet okay? Right, here we go.
(Demo)
It is just moving on a little bit, alright?
(Demo)
Now again, when mixing an acapellas especially vocal type acapellas, always make sure, very important the key change okay, you need to try and keep the keys match otherwise it will still sound very dodgy and then also, another really important factor, and that is if there is vocals already on the song that you want to mix the acapella into and that is fine but just try and make sure that that do not really clash because that does not sound very good either.
Alright, this is a song without the acapella, now what we will do, we will ready the acapella.
(Demo)
Because the beauty around something like this, if you got a 3rd turntable and you can start mixing it with the matched tune, it will keep it, it will keep the acapella in there as well.
I hope that has been a help.
