Guitarlessons.com, the number one name in guitar lessons online
Hey! I’m Nate Savage and today I’m going to teach how to play a guitar solo. Let’s start of by picking a chord, G7 Chord we work done here on the third fret. [Demonstration]
So, if you know what chord we’re playing or dealing with that notes done our choices for our scales that were going to use. Let’s use the blue scale seems that’s pretty easy and pretty fun and pretty useful at the same time. So, if you don’t know that you probably want to go learn your blue scale first before you continue on with this lesson. All I’m going to do is start up, I’m just kind of noodle around and experiment with notes in this scale and just picking at random and see what they sound like. [Demonstration]
So, all I was doing was a mixing up the notes of the G blue scale. And when you’re first getting started soloing, that’s all you need to do. You need to experiment with what scale is over a certain chord, in this case at G7 chord. [Demonstration]
And the blue scale, the G blue scale play on those notes and get really familiar with what they sound like. So, for instance if I have a vamp, a G7 vamp just like this. [Demonstration]
I know just from experimenting with this scale that this is a G note right here, and if I slide up from the third fret on my D string to that G right there, then I’m going to get this particular sound. [Demonstration]
And if I want that sound, I can kind of just recall it in my brain. It’s a lot like learning another language. So, if I wanted a flat five sounds for instance, I’ll come up here to this note and just work way down to that G. So take this scale with your G7 chord and just experiment around with it. And in future lessons will teach other chords that go with other scales that you can be use to put together and create other solos.
