Let us talk a little bit about double plays for the short stop. We have three throws that a short stop can make to the second baseman to lead on the double play. The first one that we are going to talk about is a ball straight at us. The six-ball technique involves our short stop moving to the ball, he is going to break down into his fielding position. He is going to feel the ball; he is going to swivel down on the right knee and release the ball, okay. We call this one as swivel. We do not need to pick our feet up in movements(ph), it is not necessary to jump three or four steps before you get rid of the ball.
It is a hard hit and number six ball field it, swivel down, we throw slightly up hill to our second baseman. Okay, coach just take a look at it, coming at you, ball right at in, swivel, bang. Want to give your seconds base man a nice chest high feed. Give him something he has got that he wants to work with. Swivel, good, keep those feet spread on your fielding position, swivel, bang.

The second possibility that we would have for a ball that would be a double play, would be on the ball that moves us to our left. For my normal double play positioning which we will talk about a little more detail in just a moment, from a normal double play depth, any ball that takes us to our left becomes a flip. Okay Brent, if would at least set it up. He is going to move to his left. As he moves to his left, he breaks down, he fields the ball, he tells a second baseman what he is doing, and flip and he feeds it on to him. So, any ball takes his left is an automatic flip. Okay, let us set it up. Remember now we want to pull out our technique from our flip drills here. Good, alright Tony help in here. Tell him what you are doing, nice stiff(ph). Give him a feed right up chest high.

The third technique that we have involves taking to the short stop and moving into his right, this is a tough play. This is going to separate the average players to from the good ones and the good ones from the great ones. The people that people talk about in high school and college and professional guy that can go in get a ball on the hole and throw it, either second base or across the field of the first, this is a tough technique, to perform, to execute, but I can guarantee, you will not give right and good unless you work at to some. Remember, our back hand technique from some of the drills that we have done, we want to try to get right foot forward.
This is where it really helps to have right foot forward, we are going to back hand the ball, we are going to swivel down, turn, boom and get rid of it. We are not going to stand straight back up. Okay Brent, let us try once he is going to take him to his right now. To his right, he will backhand it, swivel, and notice how I did not take a step. If he can gather some strength on his right leg, he does not need to take a step. Get to it, back hand. If you want to take a little jump step with the left foot, you can do it but, if you can avoid it, it means we just get rid of that much quicker, bang.
