In this drill we are going to work on come backers to the pitcher. This drill will help the pitchers in determining one who is going to cover the back when we turn it to double play. If the ball goes directly to the pitcher, he is in the dirt. He knows that the shortstop is going to cover the back.

If the ball is hit to the pitchers left, he has got to know that the Second baseman is got to back him up when the shortstop is going to cover the back.

If the ball is hit to the pitchers right, the shortstop got to stay there and he knows that the second baseman is going to come and cover the back. A lot of times you will see this guys say “Hey, ball direct it back to me, I got you.” So they know who they are talking to and they communicate. So what we are going to work on is getting into proper footwork for turn it a double play. Here we go, ready?
[Music Playing]
Not bad.
[Music Playing]
You notice that Timmy and Philip kind of turn a little bit to the side and if you got a through half and you can turn to the side; that is going to make it transitional, a little bit easier, instead of filling this straight on. What I would ask for the younger players to do is, maybe go ahead and fill the square on and then turn rather than taking a chance of opening up too quick. Now we will test to see if we can go left or right. Here we go.
[Music Playing]
Get your feet set. Not bad.
[Music Playing]
Good.

What we will do now when the come backers, I will hit the ball to the pitcher we are going to spank it to the runner at third. What we have got to do is check him, make sure he will just do not let him fly down the line and score. We are going to hold him, and then we are going to make that throw to first. We got to check the runner, get our feet work in order and then get the foot work ready to throw to get the out at first. Here we go.
[Music Playing]
Good, check him and make the throw. There you go. Give him a look.
[Music Playing]
Catch the ball first. We have got to catch the ball first.
[Music Playing]
Check him. Make the throw.
