Coming Second Base on the steal situation. Kurt, if you would hustle to the bag real quick and let us take a look how we like to cover the bag on a steal.
Notice how Kurt has got the bag straddled and he is going to receive the throw from the Catcher in this fashion. The reason we do this is we use the bags as protection from the base runner.
Also, we do not want to step forward in front of the bag. If we do that, we have a tendency to run out to the ball and get and try to bring it back which is very, very slow way of getting the baseball.
We do not want get in front of the bag, which positions are body in such a fashion reliable get run over. So, we want to straddle it. Show us how we do it right there we go. We receive throw from the Catcher, okay.
Making a tag play at second base. It is important that we recognize who is supposed to take the throw. We break to the bag hard we have a primarily responsibility in terms who is supposed to take the throw and who is not primarily man we are backed up just like we did there.
If the Second Base is a person who is going to cover the bag. The Shortstop will drop behind and help us out in event of over throw. Notice the Shortstop break to the bag, nice throw nice tag play and the Second Baseman is back to help covers.
