The object when holding runners on base is to keep the runner close to the bag or as close as we can.
Avoid allowing him to get a good jump and yet, still being able to get back to your position and field what you need to have covered. We are going to start first with our short stop and primary coverage.
Alright, here we go.
(Demo)
Pops that glove?
Works his feet and bounces back into his position.
Notice how the man leading off second base when he heard the foot steps? He bounces back toward the bag.
That is all you have to get in to do, when the pitcher releases the ball, we just have to have him move back.
Okay, now we got a left handed header up and I wan the second baseman to work primary coverage on this play.
Okay, here we go.
(Demo)
He bounces back? Now the short stop will just make a very small effort to hold on.
Again, the second baseman is in primary cover, just short stop secondary and that secondary man, we want him to hold his position just a little bit longer a little bit more.
