Over here, we are ready to do now what I call the pitcher’s best friend. We are going to ice Tommy’s right arm. Tommy’s had a tough day just throwing in pitching. What we want to do is put the ice in the back of his shoulder, then we are going to submerge his arm on this bucket right here to slowdown the trauma that is caused by the violent action of throwing a baseball.
So, Tommy, are you ready for this? And I will tell you this right now, you got to work the players up with their tolerance because it can be very pretty tough. Here we go. Tommy sit up here. We are going to place it here. Now I am going to take my ace band, just to ask Tommy to hold it right there.

Now that you can see it, it does not have to be pretty but Tommy is doing a good job tolerating the pain and the cold.
What I ask or suggest that you do is that if anyone pitches five minutes or more, it gets really up in the pitch counter. Maybe around eighty, ninety, start them off with this.
Now what we are going to do is ask Tommy to go ahead and submerge his arm in the bucket. Put it all the way down in there. And what I usually have them do is try to put their hands up here, mine with the older players. Just kind of work their fingers and get some of the blood that should circulate there.
Do not do this for more than fifteen minutes. Okay! If you should do this, the pain persist and probably you will damage your arm and you may need to see a doctor. Players put the pain in the muscle here in the bicep, once you submerge it in here, after about two minutes, you could probably fall asleep or take a nap too. But this again is going help you with the longevity of the arm, reduce the injury factor and it is also going to also make you able to come back a lot quicker, then try to wait, naturally let the arm recover. This is going to speed their process up.
So remember, ice your arm after you pitch. If you get a little bit of soreness but do not fall in love with it too much, and just think, you got to do it every day.
