Baseball’s often the game filled was spills and tumbles and one thing we are going to try help our players with just teaching the how to get out of what could be a bad situation and resulting injury by teaching how to tumble, about forward, and backward on the right shoulder and left shoulder.
We are not trying to go for speed here, what we are after is some technique to make sure that we keep our hands inside our body. Keep our legs up and underneath this. You will notice when Tom starts in just a second, he is going to do two forward rolls and once he is done that, he is going to kind of hesitate in between each.
Again, it is my job to focus on the technique. Make sure that they are doing it properly.
Okay, Tom we will start this out.
Okay, use your hands to put you off the ground if you like. Okay?
(Demo)
Right there? Good?
Good?
See rolls just have a little hesitation in between. Make sure our technique is good. We have got feet underneath this. Got good coordination, got agility. We are not out of control.
(Music Playing)
Our second rotation would the backward summersault.
This is the opposite of the forward obviously. Keep the hands up and underneath this,
Try to keep the legs tucked,
(Demo)
You see an outfielder in this situation periodically?
We are going to go back on the ball and maybe back pedal a little more than he should and end up going over heals.
Again, we are just trying to help our selves, get out of the,
What could be a bad situation with regard to injury, notice how Nick was nice and tight there.
(Demo)
Try to keep his legs up and underneath this,
(Demo)
Good!
(Music Playing)
Our third tumbling exercise is right shoulder roll.
This is a little more onlines or what you would see in the outfield, if an outfielder actually dough for a ball, depending on which way the ball went. To his left, to his right, he dive on the shoulder.
We are going to take a look at the right.
Okay Tom, let us get started.
And give a little more activity to the right shoulder. He reset himself and go out it again.
Again we are just trying to avoid injury and making sure that we know to tumble and know how to role and roll right out of the problem situation.
See how he tuck the right shoulder down, just nice and smooth,
(Demo)
It is good.
(Demo)
So again, we can work our coordination and our athleticism here at the same, we are helping our self prevent injury.
(Music Playing)
We follow up our right shoulder roll with the left shoulder roll, just going the other side so it happens to go that direction. We can roll on right out of left.
For right hand player, this is a little more difficult, just like a right shoulder roll be a little more difficult from a left handed player but if you work out of it just a little bit, get a couple of three repetitions every work out, you wont be long until you equally adapt it both.
(Demo)
Very nice! Good!
(Music Playing)
This is our dive roll.
We are going to speed up the process a little bit from a normal forward roll or summersault and we are going to dive out just a little bit and try to imitate.
What would be like if we are in the outfield and have to come running across the outfield and dive for ball.
Okay Tom, let us take a look.
(Demo)
You notice how he speeds up,
(Demo)
And dive out just a little bit quicker,
Okay!
Feet go up but notice he is still got a nice type tuck right there in the end,
(Demo)
Good!
So his feet come underneath him,
(Demo)
Good!
Trying his best get your feet underneath this,
So when back on his feet in a hurry,
(Demo)
Good!
