On what I want to try to accomplish is teaching the players how to make decisions from the high post. More and more everyday we are putting in offenses where are big people were ending up on the high post with the basketball. And we are asking them to make decisions to shoot it, to pass it. All of us have run to UCLA offense at one point and that is putting your big man on the high post asking him to make major decisions to pass it or shoot it. And it is real hard to do with high school kids. It is real hard to do as college kids.
So I am going to set up a little juror right now, a dummy drill with no defense on it and what we are going to teach these players is to come to the high post, look for the shot, the pass underneath and then get it back over to the other post. We are going to get a little rhythm going. They are going to go down and pick, seal into the lane. Your opposite man is going to covered his hand out to the left up the lane. Receive the ball; he is going to look for a shot, the pass underneath then back over to the other post. Let me emphasize, he does not have all day to make a decision. Shot, pass underneath or back over to the other post.
Okay, ready guys? We will start it off, you going to go down and pick. Okay, ready go. Pick him seal into the lane. Hand out, shot, pass, over to the other post. Shot, pass to the other post. Shot, pass to the other post. Seal down, seal in, shot, passed to the other post. Put your hand out. Shot, pass to the other post. Good, keep it going. Keep it going. Your timing has to be good. The man on your opposite side cannot wait for you. The defense will catch up to him if you wait. Shot, pass back over.
Good job, keep it going. Keep it going. Do not break down. Stay mentally tough. Shot, pass, get it over to him. Good. Keep it going. Keep it going. Shot, pass, back him. Pivot, shot, pass, pivot, shot, pass, get it over to him. Keep it moving. As you see you want the rhythm to keep going to get the all fundamentals down. Shot, pass underneath. Get it over to him. Okay, good guys. Good job.
You want to establish the rhythm, I have it forming rhythm. They need to concentrate on the shot first. They have to read your defensive player and find out how far has been picked off, shot, working a pass underneath or you need to bail out and give it to the other post and start it all over again.
