The second move we like to teach in the open court is called the stop and go. Player’s are going at full speed. We want them to stop at the top of the key and then explode. What we are trying to do is get them to get the defender to stop hesitate and while the defender is stopping the move forward. The walk through that and pretend to drill in with the right hand. Stop, shoulders come back, and then explode. Now we are not doing a jab we are doing a stop and then we explode. We try to make it simple for our players and tell them to bring their shoulders back and it draws the defensive player toward them.
Let’s try at half speed with the ball in our hand. Go ahead. All we really need to accomplish is to get the defense of Clare to lean forward or stop backing up and we have enough room to go by draw a foul or get an open lay up. Let’s go to the left hand, go ahead. Now we are putting together all the principles that we have been expounded. Eyes are up; they are dribbling the ball hard. They are taking correct fundamental layups with the left hand. Everything pieces together and we are increasing our ability to score on all of our fast break opportunities. Good eyes up, good!
