When we get good, when we understand it perfectly now is when we find out if we can run the passing game because then we do what we call helder skelder. They can throw out anything they want. You have to read what the cutters doing. This anything and this is how we really learn how to run the passing game. Fellows, it is very easy. If I make the passing go away you know what it is. There are two options, we will get the guy coming over or the guy bellied. If I go direct cut and he gives it to you, you will lay it in. If he does not then you walk up the floor. We will just go ahead and we will see how you do.
This is spontaneous. These three people have never done the drill. We are going to put it in, in this time frame. We are going to see how they do it passing game cuts. Go ahead I will stop if you think you need to be stopped.
Immediately we had two breakdowns. We had a slow passer there. We had a poor shot there and we had a wrong role so immediately we blew that option. We struck out on the first one. Let’s try it again.
We did fine. The other thing we could have done was step back a little more and then went to the basket.
Okay, recognize may be there was a double switch over here. We threw back across. Pack the boards, good!
We got all number three, forgetting how to pivot. You always roll with the cutter. He goes this way you go out with. We never stay in. The one thing we tell him about teaching the passing game is this, the only thing you can do wrong when you get to this stage is stand or stop. As long as you stay moving something good has a chance to happen. When you stop and the defense has the initiative and something bad is going to happen. Alright continue.
Good!
Set it up.
No screening on the ball now.
Slow down just a second. Alright now, what happens is this we put the drill in and this is our lay up drill this is where we use to warm up with. This is what we use as a warm up drill. The day and age of the old dribbling and lay it up, dribbling lay it up is gone. Most good coaches use a drill like this that incorporates all in those of their offense and they warm up with it. That way you say practice time. That way you utilize floor time. It takes less people, less assistant coaches if you like me I was lucky enough to have one assistant for 13 guys. We could get all of our stuffs done with one coach watching just a few comments here and there.
