I’m Nate Savage for guitarlessons.com. And today, I’m going to teach you how to play the guitar. The first thing we’re going to do, right off the bed is take our left hand and put our index finger on the 3rd fret, on the E string, a low E string and you’re going to come up here with your third finger and grab the 5th fret on next string over your A string. All you’re going to do is take your right hand, hold your pick, and just hit those two notes on the guitar, just those two notes.
Okay, that’s the shape that we’re going to use for all the chords in this example. So we’re going to come up here to the 5th string and get our index finger on the 5th fret and then going to grab the 7th fret with our finger and leave our E string alone. Don’t touch that one at all. We’re just going to play the 5th and the 4th string. So take your pick and hit those two notes. I’m going to take this exact same shape right, slide it up, two frets, just two frets, play those two notes again, just those two strings, five and four, and you’re going to slide all the way back down to where your index finger is on the 3rd fret, and your finger is on the 5th fret.
So you’re going to be using the same shape with your left hand. You’re just going to be moving around. So, let’s put some rhythm to this with our right hand, okay? Let’s take the first shape we did with our index finger on the third, on the sixth string and our third finger on the fifth string and just use your pick play steady note [Demonstration].
You’re going to use your hand right here, left part of your hand. You kind of layer over the strings by the bridge to mute it a little bit, so just try that little quickly. It’s going to steady the rhythm going with that end then change positions to the second shape we learned, the second position we learned, then go up to the third one, then come back down to the fourth one.
Now, you’ve got four chords you can use to make music right away. You’re playing the song right now. Let’s put this into action and learn the song Glycerine by Bush. If you take those four chords and put a rhythm to it, you got that song [Demonstration].
So now that you’ve got those chords onto your fingers, keep in there forming music that you like and you’re going to hear popping up all over the place. That progression, you’re going to hear pop, rock, church music, everything. So even on, I’d like to say a green day. For example when I come around, it’s the same exact chords [Demonstration].
The only difference is the rhythm on your right hand it’s a little bit different. So you may have to work on that a bit.
So now, take this and just mix them up and go to town and make some music.
