Before we get started into getting in into some other things about Mandolin, here is the few things I want to let you know specially those of you who are going to get more involve playing Mandolin.
Four things to keep in mind, one is to really tried working on developing your ear. One of the things have run into with lot of student I’ve taught is they become overly dependent on written music rather standard written music and I think it’s really important that just be one of the things that you use in the development but really develop your ear listen to players.
When I was learning quite sometime ago with slow this speed down to have speed on the final records and with lower things inactive and give us a chance to learn what the performer was doing. Now, I know there are sort of digital yes, I will allow you to do that.
Another thing its important to find a player that you want to immolate, somebody who really excites you, somebody who style is a just real interesting to you and you really want to try on that style, its really internalized it and get that sound in your head.
Another thing I want to tell you just real briefly is a friend of mine said, it’s really important to do your art history. Blue grass has been around as a form of music for not much over 60 years. And so, you can really go back and listen to the first generation players like the originator of the music and in that way your playing will have some foundation.
And finally it’s really important to play with friends, playing jam sessions that will develop your musicianship your timing your sense of how your instrument fits in with the rest of the instruments. And also, whenever possible its good to play with people who are more experience, and that is also be really a boost to your playing.
