Chad Carsner, Charleston Southern University, NCAA Division One, Basketball. Early in my career, I remember I have figured a game that I did not get a whole lot of minutes and the few minutes I did not play very well. Afterwards I went and asked my coach how do I handle this. I was really frustrated and need to know what I could do. He told me, I needed to do one thing to make myself better and to make myself mentally tough. I decided to go and run three miles in the snow that night. And when I was finished, I was meaner, I was tougher and I have more motivation to do better. This helped me how to develop the habit of metal toughness when things went poorly. When the going gets tough, get tough.
Three rules for building mental toughness. Rule number one, give every thing you have in every thing you do. Rule number two, do a little extra everyday to improve every day. The day you do not feel like doing you work out, is the day you become a little tougher mentally. Number three, finish what you start completely, do not quit because you will beat, fatigued, discouraged, or tired. Finish each drill, each repetition and every set. Even if it means lowering the weight when lifting. Working on physical mechanics and movement on half speed when learned out. In order to develop better fundamentals. You do not have to burn out to build up. Finish the job and practice and you will have a job in games.
When you have cheated in your preparation, it makes you mentally tough.
