Strength training is a fundamental base that we have to have before we get in to jump training. One of the first things we have to develop in our athlete before we go to a good jumping program is strength and joint stability. We want to reduce the potential for injury by increasing strength and muscle recruitment around the joints for stability. Strength helps to gain the power we need to create force to improve athletic performance.
First we need to make the muscle stronger before we can make him more powerful and more forceful. This means putting more force into the ground to move the body more efficiently, faster quicker and more explosive.
One of the keys to strength training is muscle recruitment. Not necessarily mass, although we are going to generate some development of muscle mass. We want to see how strong we can make those muscles contract to generate maximum force transferred to the ground.
Jumping train the anaerobic energy system, this is specific to explosive short burst movement. Even in sports such as basketball and volleyball, well we have a lot of jumping scenic to occur. We have a lot of rest period in between. We want to mimic the same design while we do our jumping programs. We do maximum repetitions and then we have good periods of rest and recovery so that we can maximize each repetition with any set.
Core development is vitally important well I mean core, I mean the center of the body, this area that joins the upper and lower, the upper and lower bodies work together to generate force that goes to the ground. The core is the link that puts the two together.
