Downhill Running is an art.
Gravity can provide an incredible boost to the prepared athlete.
Your job now is to observe how the following athletes take advantage of downhill conditions to efficient running.
These athletes bicycle off the hill just as a bike racer would try to carry speed from a steep hill well into the flats beyond the hill coasting at high speed.
As these girls start down the hill, their arms are widened for balance, they lean forward to take advantage of the gravity and lengthen the swing of their arms.
This allows them to eat up larger amounts of ground with each strive while gravity helps them maintain stride rapidity.
At the base of the hill, the athlete s do not slow. They allow their speed to carry out on to the flats beyond the hill by shortening arm swing to make maintain the katents.
They slow down with comfortable pace only when well out on the flats far beyond the hill.
Notice these athletes carrying their speed well in the flats.
Downhill they adjust their speed by body lean.
To slow, they lean back into the hill if they feel out of control.
Arms stay long on the downhill section allowing for a longer stride assisted by gravity.
Downhill Running:
1. Lean with the hill to use gravity.
2. Lengthen your arm swing and keep it wide for balance.
3. Bicycle off the hill into the flat as long as possible.
