We are just about to shoot and the Jet Ski guy is always coming to the frame here. We will start this again and now another Jet Ski guy is coming. Alright, so despite having Jet Ski's in back of us which is very ungreen, I am Eric Rochow and this is Real World Green and today we are going to talk about, how to green your office a little bit more and I am losing my lines. We will start over.
Hey everyone, I am Eric Rochow and this is Real World Green. Today I want to talk about greening your office some more and specifically, how to reduce your use of paper in the office. Did you know that the average office worker uses one-and-half pounds of paper a day and you may not think, well it's just one person, but you multiply that by the number of office workers we have here in the country and that's tons and tons of paper. So I want to talk about ways to reduce that use.
First of, you can use recycled paper, it's my friend Mr. Jet Ski here, thank you. You can use recycled paper, which I think a lot of people are doing now, but really the greenest paper is no paper at all, is really moving to our digital. Things like, instead of printing out all these articles that you want to read off the web, just read them on your computer.
When you do need to print something, consider printing just the pages you need. If it is a Word Processing document and you hit the Print command, don't just hit Print All, select what pages you need and print those. Maybe, you don't need the index, maybe you don't need those blank pages or the ones with all the pictures item, think about it. You take a couple of minutes, save a bunch of paper I think and also just don't print it all, read it online, you could save it as a PDF, you could email it to yourself at home, if you want to read it later or if you want to get really fancy, you could email it, to your personal digital assistant here and read it on the train or something, I don't know.
Another way to do this, is instead of printing things out, to fax them to people, have fax software installed on your computer. Just find the document you want, hit the Fax command, type in the phone number. Boom! Paperless, digital fax, I mean what can be better than that. That way, you don't have to sit at the machine and press the button and it doesn't work and you know what I mean. And finally, when you are sending emails, you have your little signature at the bottom, put at the bottom of your signature, you can even put it in green letters if you want, if you want to get fancy.
But just a little thing that says, please think before printing out this email, please read this online rather than printing it. You could put something in your words or you could put this little phrase here, think twice before printing or think of the trees before printing this. I mean countless times, I have been on the train and I see people that have printed out, amount of stuff from emails and web stuff and half the pages are useless.
So read it online, convert it into a PDF and save it, print only the select pages you need and then at the bottom, you have email signature ask where, where you are sending things to, to think twice before they print it out. Alright. Come to the green house, green-house.tv for more green tips, sorry and just tell us what you think. You have got a green idea, send us an email, that kind of thing. Alright, make it a great day. I'll see you later.
