Right folks, this is hopefully your very first last one scratching, okay. The first grade will be on scratching on the first lesson you should learn is just basically four movements, okay. Initial one we are not going to let you do a scratch. What we are going to do is we are going to moving the record forwards, backwards. Anyone can who can do scratching, always a magic turn table list. You may think this is a bit difficult, but then again you have to think. There are people out there who have not got the funkiest, okay. They look at you and then they think what the hell you are doing. And believe me what the hell you are doing is well. I admire you, it is brilliant, okay.
What I am going to do is show the total at the beginner four moves which is the basis for starting to learn to scratch, okay. You get your record. Now, first one what you need, what sounds, okay. You can actually use any single sound, ideally acapellas. What are acapellas? They are of the record of the CD where you have only got someone talking, with perhaps someone singing with no music. The other one is you can use sounds. You can actually CD’s and you can buy vinal records with just what we call brakes on. And quite often there is one of two tracks where they just got something called samples and that is what a lot of DJ’s will use. You will hear them say use one, two, three great. That is just on the record, it is on, as always one, two, three or the fresh sound.
Okay, what I have here is this. Okay, now then first practice. Four moves, find the beginning first volume up. Find that beginning, okay. Now, you will see lots of DJ’s all they have is a piece of paper or something with a line across it, piece of paper in the middle of the vinal. Now that is actually showing them where about the precise places where that scratches starts, okay. I got a tiny black line there which is roughly where I know to start. So get a hold of that record, again. Where did you touch the record? Where did you hold it? There are different place, okay. The ideal place is in the middle one finger or two, it does not matter. There is no need to put your hand flat. Okay, that is your future lessons.
Okay, some people do not move along with the along the side of the record here. One important factor though is when you are actually starting to scratch, okay. What you should not do is you should not at anytime try and slow the platter down, okay. If you can see, I’ll show you. My finger here is on the record, okay. The platter is still moving as it should. The more pressure I put on that record, the slower the platter will go until eventually it will stop. You do not need to do that; you must not do that, okay. The ideal way of touching the actual record, okay so the platter is moving freely in other words as soon as I left my finger off the record it does not slowly go from 35 to 45. It is almost still to 33 or still to 45, it is almost instantaneous. It just go straight up I suppose you do to me, okay. So, volume up and find a place. Now then four moves volume up. Lift your finger off the record okay and follow the scratch with your finger. You lift your finger up and your finger goes with the record. Grab it back, volume down pull the record back with your finger. I will show you. Up, find it here across with the scratch volume down record back, okay. We will do it fast.
Okay, what am I doing? Number one is volume up. Number 2 is take your finger off the record. Okay, this is all number two and as the scratch is descend you can hear the sound is that actually playing. You need to have your finger above that precise point. If you imagine two magnets and your finger is one magnet and the record is the other. Okay and they stock, you move exactly the same speed, the same place as the record is moving as soon as the volume so the scratch of the sound finishes you put your finger down on the record, okay. You stop then the third one is you put the volume down. The fourth one you bring the record back, okay. Now then what I will do, I will put the sound on and will do exactly what I have done. Okay, nothing else just that. Here we go. (Background music).
Okay, lesson number one I hope I am being a help. Practice and enjoy as this is all it is about. Bye-bye.
