Hi, my name is Mitch Knapp. I’m the owner of Scenic Landscaping & Tapestry Landscape Architecture and in this video clip we are going to discuss winter interesting plants that add value to your garden.
One of my favorite plants for winter interest is Acer Griseum, Paperbark Maple. As you could see that it has cinnamon bark that is peeling and it’s beautiful. That tree stands out like a sore thumb on a winters day with some snow on the ground, it’s gorgeous.
Another interesting plant for winter is—Blue Spruce. It’s a brother plant or sister plant to it as Montgomery Blue Spruce, this plant stay as blue as blue can be 12 months a year, look great in the winter time.
Another great plant is Gold Thread Cypress. This plant stays gold in 12 months a year. Another is thing it’s deer-resistant.
And here’s an interesting plant, it has great structure, it’s a Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar. This plant is unique with its weeping character as it is with its beautiful blue color.
This is one of my favorite Japanese Maples. This is Shishigashira also known as Lion’s Mane. It has a very unique bark. It’s lime green. As the winter comes, it stands out and even gets more rich in color and the green is a very a predominant color when everything else turns brown.
Here we have two different ground covers that stay evergreen, both very hardy and versatile in our area. First, we have hanging over the rocks, we have ivy and the ivy is just growing prolific right here just having a good time and behind it, you could see the Vinca Balls, that’s a high breed variety of Vinca. It tolerates the sun or shade, the deer don’t eat it. It also is prolific and it’s flowering would purplish blue flowers, all spring March through probably early May and throughout the season. You can even see now in September that it has flowers that are just coming out due to the weather change from a hotter to cooler weather.
If we could be of any further help to help to you, please don’t hesitate to reach us at www.sceniclandscaping.com. Thank you very much for watching.
