Veronica: If you’re serious about developing your football skills then this is the
video for you. Hi I’m Veronica at WatchMojo.Com and today we’re
training like a pro-football player.
So what position do you play in football?
Troy Cunningham: I am a defensive end.
Veronica: So what does your practice entail?
Troy: I do a lot of lifting and power lifting stuff in order to be explosive and fast
off and fast off the ball.
Veronica: So before you had me training for you in the corner what did we do?
Troy: We went through and do some agility and lateral work on the bag just to
get used to moving your feet and planting off one foot and then turning
corners so that your explosive coming out of every position you can be on
the field.
Veronica: And what do we do with the red bags?
Troy: We just worked on clubbing alignment and you know getting people away
from you. Getting used to throwing as hard at them and knock them away.
Veronica: So what position do you play here on the football team?
Luke Fritz: Offensive tackle.
Veronica: What do you do specifically in your workout for your position?
Luke: I need to have size and strength and explosiveness so I do a lot of shorter
sprints, heavier lifting, lower reps, and then a lot of plyometrics.
Veronica: Now before we’re doing some sprints what was the focus of those?
Luke: Sure that was part of the explosiveness training basically we go from zero
to as fast as we can go as quickly as we can get there and it’s all short
distances but it’s high intensity.
Veronica: I saw you stretching after the practice. How important is stretching?
Luke: Flexibility is huge, you know you got to be able to have your muscles
going places that maybe you normally wouldn’t put them there on your
own so the more flexible you are the less chance you have of getting
injured. Anytime you get pulls and nicks and dings, it slows you down and
so if you are able to not have those you are going to be a lot better football
player.
Veronica: What’s the hardest part of your workout?
Luke: Probably just day in day out grind everything has to be at such a high level
and so you want to continually train at the high level but your body tends
to breakdown. You got to make sure you maintain and keep going right
there.
