In this video, I am going to go over portable applications and how to use them. What these applications are, are applications that you can install on any portable storage device and use them on any computer. You don't have to keep installing them on each different computer. You can just install them once and use them on whatever computer you go to.
So the website to go to is portableapps.com for most of these applications and just browse through what applications they have. They have Development Application, Accessibility Applications, Educational ones, Gaming Applications, Programming Applications, Internet Applications, different things like that.
So you can download these individually and put them on Flash drives or iPods or you can download the PortableApps Suite, which comes with a navigational menu once you install it.
So I am just going to download that entire thing and install it on my Kingston Flash drive. So I am just going to click Next and accept the Licensing Agreement, and then I am going to select my Flash drive to install it to, and then just click Install. Whenever it's through, it should let you automatically launch it, and then you can see what the interface looks like.
It's this little menu that's in the lower right hand corner of your screen, and you can use it to open up different applications like OpenOffice. This is OpenOffice's calculator program, similar to Excel. They also have Word and different things like that.
So every time you take out your USB drive and plug it in to another computer, it should automatically pop-up with option to launch this application, and you can even add your own portable applications and customize this menu yourself.
Alright, that's it for this tutorial. For more, go to tinkernut.com.
