am often asked why use a sub domain when using Google Paperclip?
I am going to show you one example today, of how it benefits you, if you use this in your ads. I am going to type in a search in Google for the words water shoes, and we'll see what it comes up with. Now you can see here the top three positions. This one here, amazon.com/shoes, this isn't a sub domain. It's a sub directory. Shoes is the sub-directory of the amazon.com address, it's being displayed here.
Now look at this one here COEGA, Women's Water Shoes. This is my wife's company. I set this up for her. Here I have entered Water Shoes.coegawear.com. So water shoes is the sub-domain, not a sub-directory after the main address, but before the main address of coegawear.com, I have got Water Shoes.coegawear.com, and you can see that this comes up in bold here, when the keyword that has been entered matches the Web address, or the text in the Web address. This will come up bold. Water shoes comes up bold, and this is important, because not only do we have water shoes here in the headline coming up in bold, but the word water shoes also comes up in bold in the address.
Look at this advertiser here, they haven't done this. They have got water shoes in the headline, and that's good, but they haven't put it in the Web address down at the bottom. They are losing out. They are losing on their Google quality score that way. Likewise, SwimOutlet doesn't have it, Teva doesn't have it, exporting goods doesn't have it, lots of them don't have it. Here's one that has it in the sub- directory, and that's fine, but it's actually better in my opinion to have it leading off first, because that's what going to attract your customer's attention.
Now, how did I do this?
Well, if we go to my network solutions account manager, and this your Web provider would also have a similar set up, you are hosting control panel. I am going to click on my hosting package for windows in my network solutions account manager, and down at the bottom here, you can see how I have got a number of sub-domains set up for coegawear.com. And what I have done is, I have set up Water Shoes.coegawear.com here, and it's very easy to do. This only takes only about 30 seconds.
Let's say, I now wanted to add a new sub-domain for the word pole shoes, not water shoes, but pole shoes. So I am going to click, add sub- domain, and I simply type in poolshoes, one word, and then I select my domain name coegawear.com, and I have it go to the root directory. So three simple steps:poleshoes.coegawear. Com, and select the root directory. Asssign sub-domain. Click here. It is going to ask me, confirm, that I want to continue with this, poolshoes.coegawear.com? Yes, I do. So I am going to click there, and there we go. It's done, poolshoes.coegawear.com , and that's all I have to do. That's now set up.
Then in my Google AdWords Campaign Manager, I have set up three different ads. One for water shoes, one for aqua shoes, and one for pool shoes. So when I go to poolshoes here and click this, it will just take a second to come up. You can see in my ad variations, I have got poolshoes.coegawear.com set up previously. If I wanted to enter that, change it to somewhat, I could go to edit, and here is my display URL, poolshoes.coegawear.com . If I wanted to, I could put www in front of that. It doesn't really matter whether you do or not. This is just what is going to be displayed in your ad, not necessarily where the person is going to be sent to when they click on your ad.
Personally, I don't think putting www in there has much benefit. So I don't do it.
Now in the destination URL in my Google Account Manager, you can see that where I am actually sending people to, has actually no relation to what I am displaying in my ad. That doesn't matter. Google allows you to -- as long if you actually do have, a poolshoes in this case, and I do, because I have just set it up. I can type in poolshoes.coegawear.com , and then where I want them to go, which is a specific page on the coegasunwear website, where people will be sent to.
So that can be safe now, and when I type in poolshoes into Google, and do a search for that, let's see what comes up? Here we are, down here, right in this area, right here Coega Ladies Swim Pool Shoes. I have got pool, shoe, pool is showing up in bold. I could also add an S, make another version of the ad if I wanted to, but I ran out of letters here, so I could not do that. And here we see, poolshoes.coegawear.com showing in bold, and almost no one else is using this technique. TheseGuys aren't, Speedo is not, this one is not, Zappos isn't. I am with this one. It's giving me a free boost on my quality score. I am paying less per click because of this. And also the person looking at the screen sees here that pool shoes is showing up in bold. I am attracting more attention than these people here, because I am using this technique, a free technique, and they are not. And I recommend that you use this in all your ads wherever possible, because it is going to save your money everyday.
