Hi, how are you? I’m Justine Racz, you might know me from such books as “50 Jobs Worse than Yours”. I have also written the whole series of books, “50 Bosses Worse than Yours” which the other one can relate too, and “50 Relatives Worse than Yours” as well.
Basically, I’m here to talk to you about how to write a book proposal. What you want to do is do your research first. Got to the book store. Which books were selling well? Where does your book fits this category? What books felt miserably? If your book also is in that category I would think about a different topic or a new twist.
So, you always have to have your mind about how is this book in a sell in the market place. It does twist the idea of you know, of the arts and artistry with the marketplace. And sometimes you know artist they feel little uncomfortable. It’s sort of always—it’s always the art form. But unfortunately, this is a business industry some called a prestige industry but again there out there to make money. If you think like that then the editors and those reading your book proposals will appreciate that.
Here is a book I wrote “50 Dates Worse than Yours”. Who cannot relate to this that was one of the ways that I convince Blooms Berry who published this book. This was a hot topic dating we’ve seen from tons of reality shows. Some movies like “Sex And The City”, books like “He’s just not that into you”.
So, again do your research, tell them in your query letter these books have sold ex amount of copies. You find out if your book is appropriate for certain specific topics genre in the marketplace and if those books have sold well.
Be proactive find out who wrote this books, email them, their information is online if you look carefully, and ask them basically it’s an industry where I think a lot of authors try to help each other out. People are kind up there.
