Researchers found that mice which were fed a low-carb diet had smaller tumors and survived longer than mice which were fed carbohydrate-rich foods. It is hypothesized that a reduction in insulin levels caused by the low-carb diet is responsible for slowing tumor growth.
From Chicago. For the first time in over a decade, transplant recipients in three Chicago hospitals were infected with HIV from an organ donor. While the donor tested negative for HIV before the transplant, doctors speculate that the disease may have been contracted in the three weeks prior to the donor's death, rendering it undetectable. The CDC and the Illinois Department of Public Health are investigating the case.
