How an SLR Camera Differs from a Point and Shoot Camera

Now we have a Canon 40D and this is a digital SLR camera or sometimes referred to as a DSLR. Now SLR is typically what determines what in SLR, is the ability to remove the lens.

So we can take this off and put the lens on. Usually that is enough to say this is a digital SLR. All other cameras are referred to as point and shot. It is the little ones you fold up and put in your pocket.

The thing that is important to remember about digital SLR is it lets you look through the view finder and see what is coming through the lens here. How does this work? Well, there is a mirror inside the camera body at angle, so the way it works in is also at the top. Light comes in and it hits this mirror, bounces up into this other mirror, so you can see exactly through the lens okay. those single lens reflects refers to the fact that when you push the shutter button, this mirror is going to flip up really quick and the light is going to be hitting the sensor in the back of the camera. And that is the difference between digital SLR’s and point and shots.

The way the digital sensor works and shutter speed aperture is going to be—those rules are going to be the same even for point and shot cameras, you just might not have as much control over it.
