Derek Meeker: Hi there, my name is Derek Meeker and I’m a senior Law School Consultant for admissions consultants; a consulting firm for aspiring the college, business, medical, graduate and law school applicants. Today, I’m going to be answering some questions about law school admission process.
Male: Should I take time off between college and law school?
Derek: Well, that really depends work experience is not required for law school but I think there are some good reasons to take time off after college and get some work experience. And number one, if you’re not absolutely certain that law school is for you and that’s the career path that you want to follow then definitely take some time and think more about it. And if you can get a job that would expose you to the legal perfection in what attorneys do and that will help you determine whether that’s what you want to do with your career.
Also, if there is a weakness in your application, a lower GPA or a lower LECTs score or maybe you didn’t participate in a lot of extra curricular activities or you didn’t have a lot of work experience or internships while you were in college then taking some time off and doing something interesting would definitely make you a stronger applicant. I think that the thing to keep in mind when you are going to work for a couple of years before you go to law school is just to do something that’s going to challenge you, that’s going to allow you to grow and something that really interest you and excite you because that’s going to come across in your application. And then again, it’s going to make you a more interesting candidate.
