Male: How would you know that an inhaler you should be using is empty on medicines, or any absolute right, or should be counting, because gas is sometimes no medicine too but like “Oh this thing should not be used because it is puffing only gas.”
Female: If you are using the inhaled steroids in this form, we always say that if you are using two puffs twice a day. Change it every 30 days no matter what.
Male: No matter what.
Female: There are other solvents in here that can still puff out and make you think that there is medication in them.
Male: So those you say at 200-metered doses, and that means you get 25 days and a month is 30-30.
Female: Well actually, for the inhaled corticosteroids they have more than 200.
Male: If I am talking about this one here?
Female: For the other type of rescue medications, Albuterol, Xopenex, which now come in metered dose inhalers there are typically 200 puffs in here. And many of them are coming out with counters now.
Male: But it is a problem. So 30 days is the limit?
Female: If you are using it regularly. If you know you are not using it regularly then you do not need to get one.
Male: The problem that I find if the kid has one of those in school the nurse watches it and they will put a date on that thing. You don’t know if it was used 20-30-40-50, are there any guidelines if you are not sure?
Female: If you are not sure, change it out every 30 days to be safe.
Male: So that would be the smartest thing, 30 days that is it?
